Yellowstone National Park, Montana

July 4th, 2012: A herd of bison crossing the road.

One big bison.

Thermal pools – all sorts of beautiful colors!

More geothermal excitement! We had some excitement ourselves. The 4th of July was hot and we had just finished two days of cycling in strong headwinds. Skip was having trouble getting enough air so off we went to the clinic. For those of you who know him, it will come as no surprise that he didn’t really want to go at first. The good news was that it was just the altitude. The really good news was that the nurse let us camp on her living room floor – all the hotels were booked. Skip and I took the nurse (and now friend) Margaret, and a Physician’s Assistant student, David, working at the clinic out to dinner and we all had a wonderful time!

You guessed it – Old Faithful. Better than any 4th of July fireworks! In fact most of the fireworks displays out here were canceled due to fire hazard.

Best fireworks I ever saw was sunset on July 4th on the south rim of the Grand Canyon. Best it is also spectacular at Yellowstone.
